(I'm sorry; if "the intro" has a better and more proper name, it's eluding me right now, so I'll just have to go with this and edit later if I need to.)
Heavens to Murgatroid! What are we going to discover next? I was watching a Prime tape and noticed that in the intro scene, as the show is coming on and A Brand New Life plays, they show a lot more than I’ve ever seen on our U.S. versions. Prime begins with an aerial shot of the van on the street outside Tony’s Brooklyn apartment. The van door is open and Tony is standing beside it. If you look carefully, it looks like Sam has hopped into the van ahead of Tony and is scooting over to the passenger side. Tony glances up and around quickly, then gets into the van. The van pulls away from the curb and drives forward. Right away it makes a left turn, just as the words to the theme song say “around the bend.” In another scene the van drives underneath a stone overpass. Then we get a good look at Fairfield as the van arrives there and drives through. Just before it pulls up to Angela’s house, there’s a shot inside the van. Sam and Tony look very happy, excited, anticipating what’s around the bend for them. Tony reaches over and puts his arm around Sam. Then the van pulls up in front of the Bower house.
I can’t believe we have missed all those scenes for all these years. Funny thing is, the Columbia House tapes don’t have any of those scenes either. In fact, they have less than I’ve seen on some of our U.S. versions. Now, I have seen snippets of Fairfield as the van drives through, and here and there I’ve seen a little more of the route they traveled to get to Fairfield, but never where they put it all together like on the Prime tapes. How did Prime get these extra scenes? Calling all of you who saw the original show on TV. Do you remember the intro, and whether or not they showed all or part of the scenes I described above? I thought when we got the Columbia House tapes we would have everything. Looks like I was wrong.
