View Full Version : Madewy's Commercial...

Well, it's kind of a missing scene, it's Madewy's missing commercial!
I gave it a quick trial, mostly to teach myself some new software. Anyway, it was a blast to pull together. Have a gander if you like. I uploaded it to the link below, but when you click on it, be patient. The file is 7 megs and I didn't set it for streaming, so if you're on dialup, it could take 15 minutes or so to download. It took me about 20 seconds, and I'm on cable. Also, I didn't get a "downloading" bar like I usually do (I'm sure this is due to my naive upload), so know that as long as you have an "hourglass" on your mouse pointer, it will come up eventually.
Hope you enjoy it!

Folle, I tried downloading it. I really really tried but nothing happened, even after ten minutes...so I sent the link to my sister and this is what she sent me back:
That was terrific. ask her how she did it. you can download it and it will play in window's media. just be patient. It looks like it is not downloading but it is. after you start to download it go and do other things on the net.
So I am going to send her back your original post and then I will try downloading it again. I am really Jonesin' to hear it! Maybe, when you get a chance you can tell me what software you are using and what you did. She is like you and Jason and some of the other 'computer smartypants' around here.

It was really great, folle! Fun to see madewy's concept put into an actual video. :)
madewy, like folle said, it may not appear to do anything (not all downloads show a progress bar), but it will actually download... Using a 56k connection, it took about 45 minutes to download. Make sure you save it to your Desktop, so you can find it easily.
I, like your sister, used Windows Media Player to view it... You should be able to just double-click on the file to open it. If it brings up a "Choose a Program" dialogue window, you probably don't have a player capable of showing MPEG files. If that's the case, you can download the latest version of Windows Media Player here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player.aspx).
Hope this helps. :)

Madewy,
Believe me, I'm not in Jason's league with the computer... He is so far past me on computer knowledge! Thanks for the preliminary kudos though. I can't WAIT for you to see it. In fact, I'm staying up super-late tonight to see if you see it before I leave my computer for 4 whole days (while at my brother's wedding).
One thing. The file is REALLY big, compared to say, an email, or something. It wouldn't surprise me if it took a whole half hour for you to download, if you are using a dial-up modem (which I think you told me in the past you were). The good news is, once you download it once, it should play over and over again without having to wait again.
Please tell your sister I used a digital converter to capture the video (the one Jathlon and Jason suggested when I was asking for help on this in another topic), then I used Adobe Premiere to actually piece it together. Oh, and I used SuperRecorder to record the voiceover. The reason I did it was that I had never used Premiere before and wanted to get to know the program. I'm sure there is so much more I can do with it to make it better (first off, it is too long to be a real commercial), but the exercise did teach me the basics of Premiere.
I am in love with all Adobe products. They are fab.
Hope to talk to you soon Madewy!
(*Jason and I were writing at the same time and he beat me to the post. Sorry for the overlap.)

Oh Folle! That is so great!!!
What a wonderful idea. You are so talented!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
My internet service is Cable too so it came up for me in a few seconds also!
I know that I'm going to be watching this over and over again.
Wow Folle, you got us looking forward to a commercial!
Thank you so much!!!

folle, that was awesome! Thanks. All three of my daughters loved it too. They recognized it from Madewy's post when she first came up with it. I had them read her post at the time. My two younger daughters were discussing, at length, about how you must have done the voiceover. Is that your voice that we hear?
Oh yeah, it only took a few seconds for me to download it, too. I watched it about ten times.

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm Sheri! Thanks to all of you. I really enjoyed making it. I look forward to getting better at it and coming up with some different ideas.

I am so sad. I clicked on your link three times, folle, and each time my AOL shut down/kicked me off. I recently downloaded the latest version of Real Player. I don't know what version of Windows Media Player I have. Maybe I'll try again because I'm just dying to see what the rest of you have already seen. :(

Yep, Chris, that's my southern drawl in the voiceover. Tell your daughters that Adobe Premiere allows you to integrate multiple video and audio strands at the same time & then balance them as to which you want to be louder (or more opaque if video) where. I'm sure most editing programs allow you to do this, but this was my first foray into video editing, so it was all new to me!
Thanks again for your interest everyone!
Madewy - it will definitely play on Real Player. It will play on Media Player or with QuickTime as well. I tried it on all three on my system...Let me know if you can't get it after a few more tries...

For a lightweight program that will handle many file different file types, you might also want to try IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/).

I downloaded the Series 9 of Windows Media Player from your link Jason (thank you), with help from my sister (thank you too LaLa) on the phone from NY. I saved it to the desktop...also with help from my sister...I really am awful at this stuff...and I waited.
The player came up immediately and then a picture of Tony and Angela, from Road to Washington I, came on and the sound was little clips of words, from Tony and Folle (you really do have a lovely voice Folle  ) and little snipets of WTB? music. After 46 minutes I gave up and will try again tomorrow.
It's killing me that I can't see it. My first produced t.v. commercial (thank you Folle) and I'm the only guy in the country without a television set :( .

 Hurrah! I got it! Just so you'll know Jason, my sister had me go into 'preferences'...'multi media'...and set the first one as a default player?...that way the commercial went to windows media...after it downloaded to realplayer, it popped right up on my screen. I have no idea what I did right but I'm delighted.
That is so so cool Folle!!! And I see you were able to get it to play with 'limited commercial interuption'! :P Now if you could only do the same for ABC Family.

I KNOW you won't resist getting on someone's computer for four days...
Not too shabby, Counselor. You may have another talent to add to your bag of tricks!!!
BTW, the picture of the musician on your website is a cutie!!!

folle, wow, that video is so much fun to watch! Thank you for posting it. It's fantastic!
I also love video-editing! I've already edited a lot of tapes of our family vacations, put special effects in them and burned them on DVD. It's so much fun! I've always played with the thought of putting some scenes of wtb together with music in the background and so on...my problem is just that our computer which can do it belongs to my Mom. She wants me to edit all those vacation tapes first  ....which takes a while....but hopefully someday I'll get the chance to do it and then I'll post it here, of course! :D

It's the best commercial I've ever seen! And the funniest too!
Folle, you really are talented, and you have a really lovely voice!
(Now I can finally say the word "Madewy" right... I'm not a native English speaker so I never really figured out the right way to pronounce it... :P )
Thank you so much Folle, that was amazing!

Loved the commercial. As to an idea for another commercial, how about;
Ways to Say I Love You, Who's The Boss? Style!
Unconscious ; the Aniversary Show (Tony sliding under the influence of anesthetic)
; Sleep Talk, Sweet Talk (Angela saying she loves Tony while sleeping.)
Confusion technique; Sleep Talk, Sweet Talk (Tony's "We've shared many appliances" talk.)
Without really saying it; Frankie and Tony Are Lovers (Are you sure it's love?)
Poetically; Seer of Love ( Angela: You would ruin our friendship for love?)
Romantically: Death and Love (Part 2) (Angela proposes to Tony.)
Just a few quick thoughts off the top of my head. I'm sure other folks can think of scenes where Angela and Tony almost or did speak of their love for each other.
So there is an idea! You'll notice I left lots of room for your creative muse to work. :) (I left you all of the hard work anyway.)

Another "commercial" idea.
Life Lessons from Who's The Boss?
Tonight a lesson from the Tony Micelli School of Charm!
How to flatter a woman;
From First Kiss;
ANGELA: I guess I looked kinda bad?
TONY: Oh no you looked really (Changes his mind about what he's going to say.) not bad, not bad.
From It Happened One Summer (1)
TONY:Oh, hi Angela. You look so…so – it’s not to say you look “so so”, but uhm, the three weeks hasn’t aged you a bit.
ANGELA: Oh, thank you. I stayed out of the sun.
TONY: It worked.
And for a different method, maybe a clip from First Date when Tony is talking to Angela in the kitchen after the date and he tells Angela she's beautiful. Twice.

Sorry for posting on this so late....but I LOVE the commercial. You have inspired me to try something similar for the site. I even purchased some video production software (wow, is it expensive!). I sure am lucky to be able to get awesome DISCOUNTS on software...being a teacher does have its rewards:-) And, thanks to all who posted before me, I have plenty of ideas for my own "commercial." By the way, any pointers on the production process? Any insights would be appreciated!

Seeing this thread come up again, got me thinking that perhaps a "commercial" something along the lines of "The many faces of Angela" (AKA Judith Light.) would be pretty neat. I know that one of the things I like about most comedies is that you get to see more than one facial expression. Far too many shows have the main characters doing everything with one "face". In Who's the Boss, Judith Light gets a chance to showcase her amazing range of emotions, and "faces". Her stare in "Raging Tony", to her childlike response in "It Happened One Summer". (Think of her line; That was me!) Her tears in "The All Nighter" to her laughter, and her sudden change in demeanor in "Dinner For Two." There has to be countless examples of her drop dead sensuality through out the whole series. I don't know how Tony Micelli was able to control himself. I think if Angela had looked at me the way she looked at Tony through out the series, I think I would have been lost after the first time. Heheh.
Any way. Just another idea for a "commercial" that I'm tossing out to those of you who have some talent with the video editing game. I look forward to seeing whatever anyone comes up with.
Tim.

Beckystheboss,
I used Adobe Premiere to produce Madewy's commercial and I found it very easy to use, even though I'd never done anything with digital video before. Jathlon and Jason provided sage advice on the hardware I used (I ultimately bought a "Dazzle" video converter, which was inexpensive and also easy to use, though I didn't find the quality for full screen to be as good as advertised).
My only other advice for you is to watch the length. Mine is way too long for a real commercial and you feel it in watching it. I hope, one day, to trim it down to an appropriate length and to seek Madewy's permission to actually send it in to Nick@Nite as a suggestion!
Best of luck.

Does this Click here for Madewy's Commercial (http://www.internationalconcertinstruments.com/ICIWebFolder/www/VideoFiles/Madewy%20Commercial.mpg) exist anymore...is there somewhere where it is still viewable?
