For those who have never seen STV1 before they cut out a really cute part last night. After Tony says "So much for the friendly skies"...........

Angela: Well, we're in Iowa. What do you want to do?
Tony: How about we get a bottle of wine, picnic basket, and go watch the sunset over a cornfield?
Angela: Sounds Wonderful
Tony(to the flight attendant) City Girls. Works every time!!! BADA BOOM!!!

Tony and Angela than laugh and walk away arm in arm.:)

Thanks Sherry! I watched STV Part 1 on the funnybone thing when they had it on aol to watch the full episodes and I don't remember that part being in there and I think those are supposed to be uncut, aren't they?

I noticed they cut that whole big part out too. There was another really nasty edit when Tony was reading the letter about the job offer and he said it doesn't matter what it is, he'll take it. They rather abruptly went to the inside of the car (which they do anyway) but they cut some of Judith's lines first.

I also noticed that they cut out some at the very beginning when Mona tells Mrs. R. that she wanted to take her picture and then Tony comes back from the bathroom. It seems like a goot 1 minute and a half was cut. It opens with Mona taking Tony and Al's picture.

Ya know, the very fact that that our forums need an entire category to discuss missing scenes REALLY, REALLY makes me hate advertising, (no offense to Angela Bower :)) But it is just sooo ridiculous that viewers are forced to tolerate syndicated shows that are cut to bits in order for mulit-million dollar companies to make even more mney. From television to stores to banks to jobs, absolutely nothing is done with the best interest of the consumer in mind anymore.

Okay, I could go on, but I don't know that this is the place for it. Just reading one more example of scenes deleted for money's sake hit a nerve this morning.

Ditto.
I'm not even watching the episodes on ION and it makes me mad to hear that these great episodes are being butchered like that. My question is, why? Weren't the WTB? epsidoes 22 minutes each like every other show out there? It's especially bad for the ones who are watching them for the first time.

*Scratching Head* This is something that I have never understood. When a show is in its original run you see the entire episode uncut with commercials. But, when it goes into syndication what happens?! EDITING!!! :( Why is that? I know that the obvious answer is money. But if they can air original uncut episodes when shows originally air then why can't they show the same uncut episodes in syndication and still have time for commercials?!

Because prime time first run advertising is much pricier than syndication adverstising slots. Takes more commericials to make money after first run prime time showing.

What really makes me mad is that they cut a huge chunk in the beginning of STV2. They started with Tony fluffing the pillows and saying "For the last time". But the cute/funny scenes with Angela and Tony reminiscing about the jacket he was wearing when he 1st applied for the job, Sam and Tony hugging each other after she says"I'm going to miss you so much Daddy!!" Jonathon telling Tony that he has been like a Dad and that he was going to miss him, and Mona being all worried that this is a Butt head move were all cut out.:(

AH yes money rears its head.
Thanks for the explanation Nixmom.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they cut the show and tack on extra advertising space in order to pay the parent company for the rights to air it. For example, Ion pays Sony for the rights to air the show, so in order to make a profit, they cut scenes, sell more commercials, and the original 22-minute show is now 18 or 19 minutes -- and we get an extra 3 minures of commercials.

Thanks for your explanation too Angie. :) Well the important thing is that they did not cut out the final scene or edit it in anyway. At least I don't believe they did. It seemed to be the whole uncut scene from the original episode.

Thanks a lot for your explanation Angie. Money is always the problem... We don't have our favorites scenes, but they don't care!

That's what I was telling my dad last night. Why can't they show them uncut with commercials.

I remember those parts from the funny bone network thing. They cut out like 2 minutes just from the begining of that. Thats to bad.:o

:o:o They did?! What a sacrilege! Man that's a lot to cut out, a lot of missing pieces to the story for those who are watching for the first time. That is really bad.

For what it's worth, the original episodes (for the 8th season, at least) run about 24 minutes or so, including the credits. The commercial breaks are only 1:30 or 2:00 each, versus what seems like 5 minutes or so on ION. My observation is that they attempt to edit so that the story in the episode still makes sense, but when they do that, they sometimes cut out things that affect the long-term story-line. Often, things we would love to see. They also frequently cut out parts of the teaser (before the opening credits). They do a lot of cuts of things where they figure we can just assume what happened, based on the rest of the show. The uncut episodes tend to make a lot more sense, because you don't have to do much guessing as to what happened between scenes. Like in the original Pilot, where there's a whole scene missing from syndication where Angela actually talks to Grant about the promotion/relationship dilemma (and quotes Frank Sinatra). A lot more continuity.

I always loved the part where Angela and Tony talk about what they were wearing when he 1st applied for the job.:) It ties in nicely with the final scene when Tony shows up in his tuxedo and Angela of course is in her bathrobe/hair in a towel and they talk about their clothes.

Exactly amorefan. We get the fact that it costs money for the show to be put on the air and they need more commercials to pay for it but what bothers me is the scenes they choose to cut.

Nixmom already said this, but I second the motion: AMEN sister! Well said.

As for the "jacket scene" being cut out of STV2, I had never seen it before until a few months ago, or at least didn't remember it (I was 11 when WTB ended). Imagine my shock when I watched the uncut episode (thanks to Angie) and saw that whole scene. It was bizarre to see a new scene from a show I've seen a million times. Syndication and me, we have a love/hate relationship.
