Tony's shirt in "Tony and the Dreamtones"

I am a new member and also French. So I apologize in advance for my bad English level.

Since I was a child, I ask myself the same question about the episode "Tony and the DreamTones" : why did people in the audience rip Tony's shirt at the end ?

Maybe some of you have an explanation ?

It's sort of an American rock and roll "cultural" thing, if I had to describe it. I don't know where it originated, but through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and whatnot, some rock groups started tearing shirts off and stuff like that. Obviously Tony and the Dreamtones was not a rock group, but I think it was a a comedic parallel to rock and roll bands.

Hopefully that at least sort of answers your question.
A crazy Who's the Boss? fan. I was born years after the show ended and I found it on Nick@Nite in elementary school. Every day I watched it before school at 7AM on Nick.

ANGELA (Interrupting): Look, Tony, our relationship has always been... (She smiles fondly) our relationship.

TONY (Nodding): Yeah, sort of like a blind nun driving with a flat.

ANGELA (Smiling weakly): Never quite thought it about like that...
